MOMMING MONDAY- PARENTING TIPS AND TRICKS
Hello! Welcome to Momming Monday! Today I'm going to talk about kids and healthy eating. I know I'm not the only mom out there that have picky eaters. I know I'm not the only mom out there that wishes their kids ate healthier and maybe a little bit slacking on actually trying to get them to eat their veggies. If your kids eat their daily recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables, then props to you Mama because this lady has to find tricks and that's what I'm going to share with you today.
I really only have one for you. Smoothies. They are the easiest way to get fruits and vegetables into my kids. It may take a little trial and error of which ones work and which ones do not but let me tell you it's easier than you think if you do it right. Here are the do's and don'ts to kids smoothies.
Do:
Make it taste good. I feel like this goes without saying but if you google the healthiest veggie smoothie, they are going to see that glass full of green goop and they are going to think it looks like snot. They are going to think it tastes like snot. They are not going to drink the snot
Make it look pretty. This goes with the first bullet point. I put spinach in every smoothie. If I run out of blueberries which make that nasty green turn into a delicious purple, they are out.
Pick the right ingredients. Obviously, every child is different and what works for one may not work for another. I try and use very bland but still just as nutritious vegetables like spinach and cauliflower. Kale never works for my kids because it's strong and you can taste it over the fruits. If you're reading this, you probably just want veggies in your kids' diets who cares which one am I right?
Invest in a good blender. I personally like the magic bullet. It makes a good portion. It's easy to clean. (Who doesn't like easy) and it blends everything up amazingly. I've had a bad blender and trying to drink a smoothie and then you come across a chunk of [insert vegetable here] it makes you want to gag
Don't:
Don't make too much. I have tried to make extra and drink it later and it never tastes good like it does fresh. It only takes a couple minutes to whip up a new one anyways.
Don't waste it! What do kids love? Popsicles! What do parents love? Healthy popsicles! For the days that your kids just aren't into it.
There are a TON of smoothie recipes out there. A quick google search can have you browsing delicious smoothie ideas for hours! Our go to smoothie ingredients are almond milk, banana, blueberries, a scoop of organic super seeds, vanilla yogurt, spinach, and ice!
